You know a city is awesome when it rains non stop but still manages to be awesome. Part of the reason I enjoyed it so much could have been because I was with my Dad who traveled across the world to see me, fun seems to follow us regardless of where we are. How could it not? We are in fact the official presidents of the very unofficial association of game players. I digress…
After Dad’s long trek via planes, trains and automobiles, we enjoyed a perfect dinner at a nice place around the corner. The man outside the restaurant loured us in with his sales pitch- “We have the best food in all of Seville!” Needless to say, Marty was sold as was I. The following day brought something of a scavenger hunt of the Jewish Quarter only to find out that the one synagogue was being renovated and the scaffolding prevented us from seeing even the outside.
Such is life, we ended up seeing quite a bit of the city anyway including Plaza de Espana. Now every single place in Spain has their own Plaza de Espana. But the cool part about this one is that it was built specifically for the Ibero-American Exposition in 1929. It’s not really that old but with all the detailed tile and colors, I was amazed at the architecture of it all.
The other main touristy attraction we enjoyed was the Alcazar. Again most places here have one as it served as the main fortress of cities way back when. Sevilla is known for theirs because of its sheer size and overall construction. There are tons of rooms each one more decked out than the other. The gardens of the Alcazar seemed to go on forever with some of the most amazing landscaping designs. But my favorite was the presence of the peacocks walking along the paths.
The above photo captures my failed attempt to contain my excitement. It was a real peacock! I was equally shocked that my father managed to figure out how to use my camera. It only took him 15 minutes…Can’t fault the man. He hopped over quite a large body of water to meet me in the land of the siesta and the home of Flamenco!
Love your expression in the peacock picture. So….how was the food at that restaurant? Did it meet the owner’s sales pitch? Keep enjoying your experiences abroad.
